President: Mahdokht Akbari, Ph.D. Candidate, Laboratory for Biomaterials in Imaging and regenerative medicine, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Laval University.
Mahdokht holds a Bachelor’s study in Industrial Metallurgical Engineering fr
om Iran. During her master at University of Tehran, she worked on pore size gradient scaffolds for bone tissue engineering. Then, she proceeded her research as a researcher at Royan Institute working on alginate electrospinning and functionalization. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Laval University under the supervision of Dr. Marc-Andre Fortin, working on hydrogels with the aim of functionality assessment of eye plaques for brachytherapy applications since winter 2021.
Vice President: Souheib Zekraoui, Ph.D. Candidate, Laboratory for Biomaterials in Imaging and regenerative medicine, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Laval University.
As a PhD candidate, he is working on the development of new sources for eye cancer brachytherapy using radioactive nanoparticles embedded in biomedical polymers. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in hospital biomedical engineering at the University of Setif 1. He then obtained his first master’s degree in biomedical engineering also at the University of Setif 1. He completed his second master’s degree in detectors, instrumentation and imaging in radiation physics at the University of Strasbourg.

Abdel is a double graduate engineer in Materials and Process Engineering from the European School of Materials Engineering of Lorraine University (France) and the Faculty of Science and Technology of Caddi Ayyad University (Morocco). Specialist in Metallic Materials and Metallurgy. Besides, He is currently doing my PhD at Laval University (Canada) in the field of biomaterials. His research project consists in the metallurgical development of biodegradable Fe-Mn-C based steels for orthopeadic applications.
Treasurer: Raquel Espino Lopez, Master Student, Laval University
Raquel completed her bachelor’s degree in Radiochemistry at the Higher Institute of Technologies and Applied Sciences (InSTEC) at the University of Havana, Cuba. During the first years of her bachelor’s, she participated in an international research project funded by the International Agency for Atomic Energy (IAEA), where she worked in the synthesis of radioactive tracers (with 99m-Tc) useful for modeling nickel refining processes, an important industry in Cuba. Two years later, she started working on a new national project on synthesizing magnetic nanoparticles for biomedical applications, which was the topic of her diploma thesis. She is currently enrolled in a Master’s program at Université Laval under the supervision of Dr. Marc-Andre Fortin. Her project focuses on developing a multi-scale methodology for the measurement of nanoparticle diffusion in biological tissues for radiosensitization applications.

Neshat is a PhD student in biomaterials engineering at Laval Universityfor her bachelor’s and master’s studies in Iran, she worked on hydroxyapatite synthesis as the primary material used in dentistry and titanium surface laser treatment for dental implants. prior to her graduation, she spent a year as a research assistant at the Iran Nanotechnology Innovation Council. Her interest in biomaterials prompted her to begin her doctoral studies and study on plasma surface modification of titanium alloys for cardiovascular applications.
